    Properties of ginger

Ginger has been known for over 5,000 years for its therapeutic properties. Asians have an ancestral know-how of this botanical ingredient, from its culinary to therapeutic usages and its cultivation. It is used to fight infections, fatigue, muscle pain, and digestive problems. It also has aphrodisiac, antioxidant and antibacterial properties. For internal use, ginger can boost the immune system. It is also an anti-inflammatory and antiviral because it will help fight fever, flu-like conditions and allergies. It also relieves aches and pains such as migraines, menstruation, digestive spasms and gastric disturbances. It also stimulates the appetite and acts on intestinal disorders such as nausea, bloating, gas, pain and prevents vomiting. In general, it tones and stimulates the body. For external use, it will relieve rheumatic, muscular and joint pains. Ginger is used and sought after throughout the world.

Species of ginger and part of the plant used

Two parts make up ginger. A low, underground part, called the rhizome, gnarled and branched, and an aerial part made up of leaves and a stem which measures about one meter. The pulp of the rhizome is yellow and serves as a reserve for the plant to ensure its survival. The rhizome is the part used in herbal medicine: it contains oleoresin made up of shogaol and gingerol which have anti-inflammatory and antiemetic effects. There are many vitamins (B1, B2, B3, C) and minerals (manganese, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, sodium, iron).

  3. #Origin & quality#

    Origin and quality of ginger

Although it is a natural ingredient cultivated to various longitudes, ginger is a perennial herb native to Asia. The challenge of sourcing is to carefully choose your production areas. Above and beyond the know-how of local producers, several regions in Asia offer optimal conditions for growing ginger with very high sunshine, high temperatures over a large part of the year, an average annual rainfall over 2.000 mm but also a harvest between 500 and 1.500 meters in altitude, a rich, fairly light soil, easy to work and which dries out quickly. Another key criterion when sourcing ginger is also important to carefully consider: a contaminant-free environment.
At Natural Origins, the ginger supply chain is responsible and sustainable with a mutual commitment from local producers to co-create value while growing together and preserving natural resources. The ginger allows a secure procurement with long-term cultivation contracts, optimal quality with significant work in the field to improve processes as well as the control and monitoring of all steps of the supply chain. It also demonstrates environmentally friendly practices at all steps of the supply chain, personalised assistance to meet all specifications (different varieties of ginger, different certifications, etc.) as well as human collaboration with a short supply chain in direct contact with producers and a relationship of trust which enables working under the best conditions.
